Cache as cache can! Velocity in da house

About time!
Until now I have been using solutions like memcached and was quite comfortable with it. Now the big house itself offers the first CTP of a distrbuted cache engine code-named Velocity.
This is surely high on my list as in the past years - if nothing else - we have learned that caching is one of the most important factors for effective distributed applications.

I can already see our WCF-based apps running with Velocity. Let's try it. And see whether it is worth to dump memcached.

Hi Christian,

I know that this is a long time after the initial post however this is something that was originally in my radar also however I've been holding off until I found out more about MS's deployment and licensing model for Velocity. Did you end up doing much testing and do you happen to know what is likely to happen with this nice little bit of kit?

Thanks.

Hi Eric,

Velocity is either going to be shipped with .NET Fx 4.0 or a bit after the 4.0 release. They plan to make e.g. the ASP.NET cache in 4.0 pluggable (via an interface) and provide an implementation which leverages Velocity.
For further details you should have a look at the Velocity videos from PDC08.

Cheers.
