As I'm currently setting up my new computer [1], I once again remembered this nice little trick for searching the Microsoft knowledge base. Maybe it's an old one for you but I thought I'd share it nevertheless:
Download TweakUI from the PowerToys for Windows XP website. Start it and go to Internet Explorer -> Search -> Create. Enter "kb" (or whatever you like) as a prefix and enter this URL (on a single line):
http://search.microsoft.com/default.asp?so=RECCNT&siteid=us%2Fdev&p=1 &nq=NEW&qu=%s&IntlSearch=&boolean=ALL&ig=01&i=00&i=01&i=02&i=03 &i=04&i=05&i=06&i=07&i=08&i=09&i=10&i=11&i=12&i=13&i=14&i=15&i=16 &i=17&i=18&i=19&i=20&i=21&i=22&i=23&i=24&i=25&i=26&i=27&i=28&i=29 &i=30&i=31&i=32&i=33&i=34&i=35&i=36&i=37&i=38&i=39&i=40&i=41&ig=02 &i=42&i=43&i=44&i=45&i=46&i=47&i=48&i=49&i=50&i=51&i=52&i=53&i=54 &i=55&i=56&i=57&i=58&i=59&i=60&i=61&i=62&i=63&ig=03&ig=04&ig=05 &ig=06&ig=07&ig=08&i=99
You will then be able to simply enter "kb something" in IE's address line to search for "something" at microsoft.com (including the knowledge base). Of course you can add more prefixes and URLs to search at your favorite search engine as well - just take the URL and put %s in the place where your search string should appear.
[1] Sony simply rocks the notebook world. Don't know how I could ever work with something smaller than 1600x1200 ...
