I'm currently browsing my library for books which I'll take with me on my upcoming trip to the US.
As I opened my chosen favorite, Transaction Processing - Concepts and Techniques by Jim Gray and Andreas Reuter [1], I stumbled upon the following quote in its preface:
Buying books would be great if we could also buy the time to read them.
- Arthur Schopenhauer: Parerga und Paralipomena
As I suffer from the same problem as Ted, I wholeheartedly agree.
[1] While in the US, I'll also try to grab a copy of the more current Transactional Information Systems: Theory, Algorithms, and the Practice of Concurrency Control by Gerhard Weikum and Gottfried Vossen.
