Is Remoting dead with the introduction of Indigo?
Well, if you asked three people about the best thing of Indigo, they might answer quite differently based on their background and on their point of view:
- The ASMX person would say that "finally, they killed Remoting and Enterprise Services and made everything a real web service"
- The Enterprise Services person might say that "finally, they killed Remoting and ASMX and made everything a true service"
- and the Remoting person could interpret it such that "finally, they killed these complex ASMXes and Enterprise Services and chose an easy, RPC based programming model"
I personally might conclude with
- They finally came up with a unified service model which can be accessed via your preferred programming model.
Because services should neither bind you to a specific programming model, a serialization model, a transport model, or even just a serialization format.
